The Stick Route

This is my first attempt at blogging so please be patient. I would like to review my favorite offensive route, the Stick Route. It is use primarily on run downs 1st and 2nd, but can be used in 3rd and 5 or less situations. I will discuss this out of a 3x1 set, the #1 Wr on the the weak side  can run a default hitch at 5 steps or he can convert to fade vs. press coverage. At times the weak side route can be changed to a quick slant that is based on timing. On the 3 Wr side the # 1 Wr runs a MUST Route, he must occupy the CB in any way shape or form. He is taught to run up the corners toes, stutter in front, then outside release on the corner. This Wr is not part of the progression of the quarterback. The #2 Wr runs a quick 3 step out, he must roll on the 3rd step be flat on the 4th step getting his chin on his shoulder looking for the ball. The # 2 Wr is the 1st progression for the QB. The #3 Wr runs a STICK Route, the Wr should take the best possible release off the LOS get to 6 yards and break out in a negative fashion coming back to the LOS vs anything unless he is matched by a defender from the outside. The Wr does not want to break out then back in, we consider this a lie to the quarterback. The QB's thought process is to thing about the weak side first if he has access to throw that route. If their is no access on the weak side then the quarterback should work on the stick side, his progression should be the three step out to the stick route. I hope everyone enjoys my first  shot at this and I will try and post as often as I can.
